The Bioprocess Innovation Center is a state-of-the-art office and laboratory facility that fosters interaction between scientists through a variety of transparent, flexible work spaces. The three-story, 62,000 square foot building completes the first phase of a campus master plan and capitalizes on its wooded setting with strong indoor-outdoor connectivity.

A three-story lobby welcomes visitors and employees into the sleek, contemporary workplace. Abundant natural light and clean lines convey the image of a cutting-edge, progressive research and manufacturing organization. Developing a space that was both functional and a marketing asset was a priority to FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies. They partner with multiple different biopharmaceutical companies to provide development and production services, which necessitates a high degree of flexibility, as lab demands may change at a moment’s notice.

Driven by these goals, the resulting workplace features a modern aesthetic and frames views to the surrounding deciduous forest. It encompasses administration spaces such as offices, meeting rooms, and collaboration areas as well as a substantial laboratory component with flexible casework and much of the infrastructure dropped in from the ceiling for maximum adaptability.

Notably, the administrative spaces face to the north, providing both views and northern light for better workplace productivity. The laboratory bar faces south, showcasing the company’s research and development capabilities for visitors as they approach the facility. Each element of the workplace interior design is intended to foster a strong sense of community between employees. The entrance lobby, in particular, encourages collaboration through shared, multilevel meeting and gathering spaces. A variety of types of meeting areas are interspersed throughout the building, with the goal of enabling impromptu interaction and discovery.
