Senior Civil Engineer | Associate
Virginia Beach, VA
Allyson Monsour is a senior civil engineer in our Virginia Beach office with 10 years of experience. She calls her skillset “getting paid to play in the dirt” but Allyson’s expertise includes site layout design, site grading, storm water management design, storm drainage design, and erosion and sediment control design. Working across a broad range of project types, she has extensive experience with annual service contracts and with the approval process for DEQ.
Allyson values low impact development features that protect water resources. She recently applied her knowledge of Virginia’s new stricter stormwater regulations in developing a site plan for a Dollar Tree in coastal Virginia. The final plan balances aesthetics with the demands of a small site while meeting all stormwater regulations.
As a public speaker at engineering workshops, colleges, and high schools in the area, Allyson is an enthusiastic advocate for the civil engineering profession. In 2015, she was honored with an ACEC Virginia Rising Star Award. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Old Dominion University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Following suit at Old Dominion, she received her Coastal Engineering Certificate in May 2015, her Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering in December 2015, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Engineering. Allyson is also an adjunct professor in the Old Dominion University Civil Engineering Technology Department.
