Ian Johnston has been involved in the civil and transportation engineering industry for more than 20 years. As head of the Virginia Beach transportation department, he leads the design and delivery of transportation improvement projects. Ian’s experience encompasses the management and design of a wide variety of projects, including design-build, PPTA, signal and intersection improvements, drainage improvement, roadway widening, interstates and interchanges, and bridges. His clients include the Virginia Department of Transportation, the City of Virginia Beach, and other municipalities within the State of Virginia.

Ian is a skilled strategist and communicator who has contributed to growth in the firm’s Transportation market. His portfolio includes the Wythe Creek Road in Hampton Roads, Virginia, a 2-mile project that includes a 1,600 foot bridge with VDOT’s first 3-lane reversible roadway and 22nd Street Bridge replacement in Chesapeake, Virginia. Ian earned a Master’s Certificate in project management from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
