Matt Pearson is a senior design architect in our Raleigh office. With more than 18 years of experience working with public and private clients, he has led the architectural design for a variety of projects that have been honored with state, regional, and national AIA design awards. His institutional experience ranges from residential colleges and dining halls, to science buildings and student unions. In 2017, Matt received the Honor Award for Distinguished Excellence in Design from AIA Hampton Roads.
Matt believes that the built forms we make on this earth should be done thoughtfully, with great care and attention, so that architecture imparts a sense of joy and optimism to life. Matt is passionate about creating buildings that push on the use of current technologies while responding to local histories. A careful listener, Matt realizes the value of putting client interests first. He is fully engaged in the entire project process, from concept design to project completion.
Within the industry, Matt has previously held positions as a design principal at Hanbury Evans and as an associate with HOK. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech where his studies took him to Riva San Vitale, Switzerland and the Academia di Architettura in Mendrisio. Outside of work, Matt enjoys traveling, beer tastings, playing the guitar, and hiking with his wife and two young boys. Matt is currently working on the design for a new city hall and The United States Navy SEAL Monument in Virginia Beach.
