Ian Vaughan Receives AIA Virginia Emerging Architect Award

Ian Vaughan, AIA, NOMA, was recognized with the Virginia Emerging Architect Award by AIA Virginia. This award celebrates architects early in their licensed career who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession. Ian and other honorees will be recognized at AIA Virginia’s Visions for Architecture Gala on November 5th as part of their annual conference, Architecture Exchange East, hosted in Richmond, Virginia.

“As a Virginia native, I am honored by this recognition and grateful to everyone who has supported and inspired me along the way,” said Ian. “I look forward to continuing to grow and contribute to the profession in Virginia.”

Joining Clark Nexsen in 2020, Ian is an architect with a design portfolio that spans the public and private sectors. He is committed to improving the built environment and has earned a reputation as a leader and mentor. Celebrated by this award, his passion is evident through his dedication of time and expertise to organizations shaping our communities and the profession. Ian helped establish the Virginia Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (VANOMA) and has held numerous positions, including serving as the chapter’s president in 2023-2024. During his time as VANOMA’s board, the chapter was awarded NOMA Chapter of the Year and Five-Star Chapter designation, and he was recognized with a 2024 Vision Award by the North Carolina chapter. Additionally, Ian serves on the Board of Trustees of Preservation Virginia and the Advisory Board for Virginia Tech School of Architecture. He was also previously a part of Portsmouth’s Downtown Design Committee and Virginia’s Art and Architectural Review Board.
