Brian’s proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving has resulted in many successful projects as a structural engineer, project manager, and managing principal. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he joined Clark Nexsen as a structural engineer, focusing on a variety of projects including historic renovations and design work in Spain and Italy. Clark Nexsen’s culture of encouraging staff to explore growth opportunities has allowed Brian to expand his expertise and take on new challenges throughout his career.

After gaining a curiosity for applying Lean Construction Institute (LCI) principles into design, he worked to implement a few firm-wide Lean initiatives. CN Kaizen, a continuous improvement practice, has led to many implemented improvements. He also worked to increase the use of Lean tools such as pull planning and Kanban, and he presented on that rollout at the 2019 Lean Construction Institute Congress

As his passion for leadership grew, he found those skills opened opportunities into project management and now in his role as a Managing Principal in the Federal Market. His project management style leverages technology, open communication channels, and results-focused processes. Leveraging his positive attitude and optimism, Brian is passionate about making a difference for project users, clients, and the wider community. Brian is a 2016 Master’s graduate of Old Dominion University’s Engineering Management program, a 2018 Inside Business Top 40 under 40 recipient and a graduate of the 2018 Class of the LEAD Hampton Roads leadership development program.
