Chris Brasier Receives AIA North Carolina’s F. Carter Williams Gold Medal

Chris Brasier, FAIA, LEED AP, was awarded the F. Carter Williams Gold Medal by AIA North Carolina at the annual AIA North Carolina Design & Chapter Awards on October 24 in Charlotte. Named after Raleigh architect F. Carter Williams, it is the highest award presented by the chapter to a member of AIA North Carolina and is given to an individual in recognition of a distinguished career or extraordinary accomplishments as an architect.
“It is an absolute honor to be this year’s recipient of the F. Carter Williams Gold Medal,” said Chris. “One common thread woven into the heart of my career is the good fortune is being able to partner with smart, remarkably curious and talented people that are united by a common desire to pursue excellence. Thanks to every client that put their trust in our teams, every colleague that went above and beyond to solve a difficult challenge and to my family that has provided an unwavering foundation upon which to build. I appreciate the spirit you bring to the work we do together and how you continue to challenge and inspire those around you each day.”
With over 40 years of experience in the field, Chris is an established and trusted subject matter expert in higher education with a career focused on serving clients by guiding the planning and design for a diverse cross-section of campus building typologies. His work is informed by his active engagement in teaching at Duke University where he serves as an adjunct professor at the Pratt School of Engineering and as the Director of the Architectural Engineering Certificate Program, which provides firsthand experience of dramatic changes occurring both within and outside classrooms on college campuses.
Additionally, Chris has helped shape the direction of Clark Nexsen as a member of the Board of Directors. His leadership has fostered a firm culture of “proactive curiosity” by creating conditions for collaboration and creativity to thrive. Outside the firm, Chris has served as chair of the North Carolina Board of Architecture, held numerous leadership positions with the American Institute of Architects, served on various NCARB committees, and continues to serve as an NAAB accreditation visiting team member.
