Visitor Center 2026 Design Competition Additional Entries
Cape Henry Visitor Center

The jury commended the Cape Henry Visitor Center's material use and simple timber structural system that lifted the building up to rest lightly on the dune landscape. The proposal featured wonderful interior vignettes that highlighted the choreographed movement through the center and created an intentional experience with framed views of the lighthouses.
Radiating Light

The Radiating Light proposal's thoughtful design referenced the radial movement of light created by a lighthouse Fresnel lens. This theme was conveyed through subtle details such as the scalloped roof and segmented building massing. The jury loved the simple palette of timber, weathered cedar siding, and metal.
The Horizon

The Horizon proposal's strength came from its consideration of the entire site, resulting in a wonderful, choreographed experience of the landscape. The diverse design team represented multiple disciplines, and the voices of each could be heard in the proposal.
