The Chesapeake Public Safety Training Academy will provide the City of Chesapeake with a state-of-the-art, 52-acre campus that will train fire, police, and sheriff personnel. Bringing the city’s Fire Department, Police Department, and Sheriff’s Office training facilities into one consolidated public safety training academy, this new, shared facility will improve training efficiency and allow the city to meet the demand for highly trained first responders.
Located just outside the Northwest River Natural Area Preserve, the Chesapeake Public Safety Training Academy is years in the making. The city’s current fire, police, and sheriff training facilities lack the capacity and technologies to train public safety personnel. The new facility, which will be located adjacent to Fire Station #7 and the 6th Police Precinct, will provide significant upgrades with specialized training spaces like two indoor firing ranges, Class A and Class B burn buildings, urban search and rescue training area, mock fire station, rooftop simulator, K-9 training facilities, driver training range, a LawFit obstacle course, and shared resources such as classrooms, a gym, and an auditorium.
The Chesapeake Public Safety Training Academy represents a new commitment by the City of Chesapeake to provide its first responders with modern facilities and technologies. By consolidating the three agencies into one location, the academy is poised to become a center of collaboration and cross-agency cooperation, creating a stronger cohesion amongst the fire, police, and sheriff personnel who have dedicated themselves to serving their community.
