What are you working on at the moment?
Using Civil 3D, I have designed a light pole and I have worked on designing sidewalks, curbs, and gutters for multiple projects using MicroStation software. I also worked on a challenging project where I was able to design the storm water drainage for pre- and post- development. Estimating cost of the projects using VDOT manual and historical bids was one of the tasks that I performed for multiple projects throughout the summer.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I speak 4 languages Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish, and English.

OFFICE  Virginia Beach

What are you working on at the moment?
I have performed various bridge inspections in order to determine areas in need of repair. I was then responsible for using this information to edit reports accordingly. I was also given the opportunity to participate in some design work, such as load ratings. This involved determining the location where the maximum moment would occur on particular bridges based on varying design vehicles and then determining the maximum allowable load.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I love being active (hiking, biking), being outside, and traveling! I hope to be privileged enough to travel the world while I’m young.

What are you working on at the moment?
I recently coordinated a workshop between Clark Nexsen and G2 Ops to develop plans to meet DFARS Cyber Security Requirements that have been set forth by the NIST (National Institute of Standards of Technology). This is to ensure that Clark Nexsen meets minimum security standards to obtain or hold contracts with government departments like the Department of Defense (DoD).

Interesting or fun fact about you?
This summer, I participated in the Tough Mudder Classic in Haymarket, VA.

SCHOOL  Penn State University
OFFICE  Virginia Beach

What are you working on at the moment?
This summer, I was given the opportunity to work on a multitude of projects with tasks ranging from designing a guardrail on the 23rd floor of a building to checking the stability of foundation footings. Currently, I am working on a preliminary design for a Special Operations Forces (SOF) building addition. This requires selecting beams, columns, and other structural elements based on estimated loads and forces that the building must withstand. I am also part of a team with the task of exploring the modeling and analysis capabilities of Tekla Structural Designer (TSD), which was a software introduced to the structural department earlier this year.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
At school, I am the Vice President of the Surveying Engineering Club, a Fundraising Captain of the student chapter of Engineers in Action (EIA), and an active student member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Not related to my career or discipline, I love to read, travel, and go to concerts.

What are you working on at the moment?
I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time around some very knowledgeable and talented architects this summer. Right now, we are working on a firing range for the Air Force. It’s a massive building compared to the other ranges and government projects we have spent time on this summer, but a good contrast that provides a better understanding of the variation that comes with such programs. Some law enforcement training facilities and security programs have been in the mix as well.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I might be an “adult”, but I still watch cartoons like every morning is a Saturday morning. They are fun and creative to enjoy, plus my interest in creative writing and character design is satisfied with these kinds of shows. Always something different to find out there for entertainment and inspiration!

What are you working on at the moment?
This summer I’ve gotten to work on a variety of projects, both transportation related and some general civil engineering projects. I am part of the team designing roadway improvements for the City of Wilmington that will reduce traffic and incorporate complete street principles. An ongoing project I’ve also been working on this summer has been compiling a database of all transportation-related grants that we can apply for for future projects.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
This past January I hiked an active volcano in Guatemala.

OFFICE  Vienna, VA

What are you working on at the moment?
Through this Internship I got beneficial hands on experience with a lot of aspects of transportation projects and got to familiarize myself with MicroStation. I have helped put together traffic plans for several projects, I got to perform stormwater flow rate calculations and design a culvert for a project in Virginia, and much more. While learning and helping with various projects I also had the opportunity to work on a summer assignment to create an algorithm to predict how many hours it will take to design a project through excel regression.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I have never ridden a roller coaster in my entire life, but I plan too!

What are you working on at the moment?
Throughout the summer, I have been traveling with engineers from the bridge team throughout areas of Virginia to inspect various structures. When I’m not inspecting in the field, I translate our fieldnotes and create new bridge inspection reports to be referenced by inspectors in the future.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I piloted a small plane from Daytona Beach to Fort Lauderdale, FL when I was 16.

What are you working on at the moment?
I am currently working on an indoor firing range addition to prove that the amount of air entering and leaving the firing range is enough for the building size. I modeled the building with an open truss roof design in Sketchup based on the existing drawings and then added HVAC equipment in Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) using computational fluid dynamics to show that the flow for supply and exhaust air is sufficient enough to make sure there is the right amount of ventilation in the building when training is going on.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I'm an adventurous traveler.

What are you working on at the moment?
I have worked on multiple projects throughout my internship. I started off by calculating areas for MSE walls and quantities for lighting. After that I worked on cross sections and grading for a couple of projects along with cost estimates. Towards the end of my internship, I have been out in the field assessing guardrail throughout the Hampton Roads area.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I am on an Indian dance team at Virginia Tech and we have competed and placed at competitions all over the East Coast.

What are you working on at the moment?
Clark Nexsen's civil department is a great example of how teamwork creates a solid finished product. Everyone has their different and necessary skillsets they bring to the table so I was able to learn about many different topics within civil. Drainage areas and stormwater calculations are a huge part of what we do in the civil department, given the area. Throughout the summer I’ve spent my time creating site concepts, drafting parking lots, landscapes, and building layouts, editing pipe networks, shop drawing reviews, water quality spreadsheets. I have also spent a considerable amount of time in the field attending pre-construction meetings, punchlist walkthroughs, guard rail inspections and 3D site scans.

Interesting or fun fact about you?
I am a yoga instructor in my spare time.
