Clark Nexsen Announces Executive Leadership Changes

We are excited to announce executive leadership changes to further position Clark Nexsen as an industry leader. Our board of directors unanimously selected the following leaders:


Clymer Cease, FAIA has been named Chairman of the Board. In this role, he will provide strategic guidance and leadership to the firm and the board of directors. Clymer will lead the expansion of the firm’s business development and support the president’s implementation of operation. As a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, Clymer is a thoughtful leader who listens carefully to move the firm forward. He previously served as a board member and a managing principal of the firm’s office in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Chris Stone, PE, F.NSPE, F.ASCE has been named Chief Executive Officer. He is responsible for publicly representing the organization and exploring growth opportunities and strategic alliances. Formerly serving as President since 2000, his leadership is distinguished by the belief that the architecture and engineering industry can make a transformative difference in the world. Chris has held many national leadership roles, including president of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Chair for the Council on Federal Procurement of Architecturaland Engineering Services (COFPAES), Subcommittee Chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Industry Leaders Council (ILC), and is a Fellow with both the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.


Terri Hall, PE has been named President. In this position, she is responsible for operations across the firm and providing executive leadership and strategic guidance. A founding member of the Raleigh office, Terri managed the rapid growth of this location and became the firm’s first female board member in 2012. She believes in the importance of collaboration in developing innovative solutions to the toughest challenges facing our world today. Terri will relocate to the Hampton Roads area to lead the firm from the Virginia Beach office.


Tom Winborne, AIA has been named Chairman Emeritus and will work with the newly elected executive officers to assist with the leadership transition. With a tenure of more than 40 years at Clark Nexsen, Tom has been integral in the firm’s growth from 35 architects and engineers to more than 400 and in establishing key areas of market leadership. He was named the firm’s Chief Operating Officer in 2008 and the Chief Executive Officer in 2010. Tom advocates for regionalism in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia as a member of multiple boards including TowneBank Chesapeake, Greater Norfolk Corporation, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, and the Old Dominion University Educational Foundation.
