Clark Nexsen’s move to a new office location in Macon was an opportunity to rethink the office space with a focus on employee wellbeing. The office upfit transforms a brand-new location into an employee-focused space with modern amenities, natural light, and collaboration areas. Continuing the firm’s commitment to teamwork, design, access to resources, and wellness, the new office creates an atmosphere that will improve our employees’ working environment and experience.
The design utilizes an open office layout with room for individual workstations, conference rooms, multi-functional collaboration areas, and flexible private offices. Using flexible workstations customized to the Macon office needs, they now include electric sit-to-stand desks for mobility throughout the day, adjustable dual-monitor arms for better ergonomics, and desk lamps with adjustable light levels.
Key to the design was building a calming atmosphere for employees, which was accomplished through daylighting, acoustics, and the selection of materials. The firm’s previous space in Macon lacked daylight views, providing little to no natural light inside. To provide better daylighting in the new office, a large conference room and private offices were placed next to the windows, maximizing the amount of natural light. These spaces were installed with glass wall systems, allowing light to filter into the office’s interior.
Acoustically, various sound masking materials and techniques were utilized to dampen noise. The lobby – one of the busiest and loudest sections of the office – was installed with a FilzFelt acoustic wall panel design to reduce sound transmission. Additionally, a high NRC (noise reduction coefficient) ceiling tile was installed throughout the space to lower noise. Materiality also played a significant role in providing a calming atmosphere. A warm tone was provided throughout the office with a blend of wood finishes and furniture materials. Soft felt textures, from the chairs to the carpet, further create a calming environment for our employees.
The upfit also presented an opportunity to include spaces the old Macon office didn’t have. Two new collaboration areas flank the private offices, giving our employees an open space to work independently or with colleagues. For the first time, the Macon office now has a wellness room to reflect the firm’s inclusive culture and support its initiatives in mental and physical wellbeing.
Clark Nexsen’s Macon office upfit provides our employees with a modern space and amenities that will improve workplace dynamics and efficiency. New wellness and collaboration spaces and plenty of natural light, transparency, and openness bring a vibrant energy to the office. By working closely with our staff, we’ve created an experience that will serve our staff for years to come.
