The Hampton Roads Transit operates three, 150-passenger ferries helping to connect a bustling, waterfront metropolitan area between Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. Traveling between North Landing and High Street in Portsmouth and the Waterside festival marketplace in downtown Norfolk as well as Norfolk’s Harbor Park, maintaining the integrity of the waterfront terminals for these ferries is critical for both public and operator safety.

Our marine engineering team partnered with Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) to conduct structural inspections of all four ferry terminal stations and provide a condition report to guide future repairs and maintenance. This waterfront work included structural inspections and condition assessments of the ferry dock facilities including decks, superstructure components, substructure components, gangways, floating dock components, and breasting/mooring dolphins.

Having completed the assessments, our team provided a condition report to HRT summarizing the material condition of each ferry terminal, including prioritized recommendations for maintenance.
