Community Collective Foundation Commits $4,500 to LGBTQ+ Organizations
This June, the Community Collective Foundation once again committed $4,500 to LGBTQ+ organizations. The firm’s nine offices each provided $500 to donate to local non-profits in honor of Pride Month.
“From picnics to parades, Pride Month ignites community-wide celebration, and it is exciting to participate through this campaign,” said Anna Traylor, AIA, WELL AP, Associate Principal, Senior Architect. “It is also a time to reflect on past struggles, milestones, and current challenges. Each nominated organization strives to provide a sense of belonging and community through unconditional acceptance, and it is exceptionally rewarding to contribute to their mission through our donations.”
For Clark Nexen’s second annual Pride Month campaign, the firm’s nine offices evenly divided their $500 to their chosen non-profits. The organizations receiving a contribution are as follows: Lost-n-Found Youth, Macon, GA; Blue Ridge Pride and The Trevor Project, Asheville, NC; Time Out Youth, Charlotte, NC; LGBT Center of Raleigh, Raleigh, NC; TriPride, Johnson City, TN; Side by Side, Richmond, VA; Roanoke Diversity Center, Roanoke, VA; NOVA Pride, Vienna, VA; LGBT Life Center, Virginia Beach, VA.
“We were inspired by the success and engagement of last year’s employee-led campaign, and we are thrilled to host it again as an annual event,” said Susan Drew, CID, LEED AP, Principal, Director of Interiors, and Community Collective Foundation Board Member. “We take pride in supporting our employee initiatives, and through our contributions to these organizations, we foster a positive and inclusive workplace environment while uplifting our communities and celebrating equality.”
Observed each June, Pride Month celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBTQ+) community and their contributions. First officially recognized in the United States in 1999, Pride Month coincides with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, which served as a major catalyst for the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. In 1970, Pride marches commemorated the riots and evolved into the month-long observance we celebrate today.
